Rebecca hiked the old John Muir Trail, and it does look absolutely gorgeous.
Tookie reviews the Montane Terra Mountain Pants.

Snippet: Patagonia Wants You To Buy Less Gear

Tonight, Patagonia and eBay announced a new partnership, the Common Threads Initiative. Together, they asked owners of fleece and Gore-Tex everywhere to pledge to reduce consumption, reuse old gear, recycle, repair what's broken, and reimagine a world where people don't stress the earth with purchases. - Source
If you know me a bit, then you know that I value sustainability. You also might be aware that I value a few outdoor companies who do so as well. So as I read this news, and checked out the Patagonia Common Threads Initiative page I didn't think long to make the pledge. And with the pretty good selection of used Patagonia gear up for grabs I also am tempted to make a purchase or two (am still looking for a comfy climbing pants). If you need a new baselayer, a puffy jacket or a shell, check out the selection and buy it there instead of getting it new. Your children, grandchildren and nature will thank you.
I, personally, applaud Patagonia for making this step - it is the ultimate commitment for a better future, against the bottom line. Respect.

Here's a smart way to dry your Platypus and other water bottles.
Allison went back east to visit her parents.
Some superb photos from Buachaille Etive Mor.
Mark's review of his three years in the USA - The End of America - was my favourite read this week. I obviously also am very happy to soon go hiking with him in Finland!
Rick continues to do lovely hikes around Japan. His hike up Mt Yufu has some nice photos.
Brian makes a better MYOG Esbit Stove.
The Zion Narrows in autumn, lemme tell ya: Gorgeous.
Chris explains why you wanna be hanging in a hammock in the tropics. Which reminds me that I need to leave Finland in November next year.

A meeting got canceled so Chris decided to spent the day on the Cairngorm Plateau.
Into Art? New Mexico? Then check out these David Fowler paintings.
Talking about hiking & backpacking dogs, Hana from Japan is definitely my favourite. She ain't afraid of heights and her owner knows how to take a good photo. Check it out!
Fraser also knows how to take a good photo or two (or more). And he has a lovely new bike - it's orange, what's not to love about it?! He took it out on an overnighter in the Cairngorms, and even shot a timelapse. What are you doing here still - go read it!
Simon reviews the Mountain Equipment Firefox. And while Firefox is a rubbish browser (which has been updated three times already by the time you read this) this jacket is tempting Simon.
Nick ticked three Munros of his list, saw a cloud inversion, and had an all around cracking day on Ben Lawers.
On the other side of Scotland, Holly went camping. A recommended read.

Ryan and Yvonne had an Adventure in Daylight Savings.
OWDBUM had a bit of an aimless wandering around.
Fils has a living Review of the POE Peak Elite AC up on his site. Trs bien!
Linda visited the Wahkeena Trail, and it does look stunning with those great autumn colours and waterfalls.
David was in Sandwood Bay. Which is the best beach in the UK. And it is not very accessible to the masses. Result: A pristine beach landscape, portrayed in gorgeous photos. Recommended Read.
Greg took Winston for a walk. Amusingly written as always.
If England in autumn colours is more your cup of tea, then Alan has you covered as he walked the Oldham Way.
James did the Ben and the Buachaille in nine hours.
Why you should leave no trace behind in the outdoors is well illustrated in this post from David.
Martin shares his insights into reducing pack weight.
James and his Bothy vagabonds mates continue to hike through the autumn hills and moors of Scotland.
Joe is in Peru. With his Pugsley. Bikepacking Portachuelo Honda = Must Read.

The Week In Review
Darren lives in Australia. Australia is totally a country where I could picture myself living. Their Novembers are not grey & depressive. Not at all, as Darren shows on his packrafting the shoalhaven river trip.
John is walking the GR7 at the moment, and it took him to Murcia last week. The sun shines also in Spain.
Nick welcomes back Greenwich Mean Time on Scolty Hill.
The 2012 Ultralight Backpackers Summit will be held in Slovenia, as decided by the majority of people who voted - Awesome =) Now lets find a date which suits most of us. Please go and choose your preferred date in the Doodle calendar before the hobbits, dwarfs and elves behind this continue planning!
David's mate took some fine photo on the HRP.
Dave discusses In Or Out?
Jack shows us a free, UL wood stove.
Alan had a wet walk on Greendale Tarn. Quite nice photos of a soggy hike.
John had a bit more luck with the weather on his hike around Troutbeck and Gowbarrow.
Cole continues to produce fine photos of his trips, and his latest Lassen National Park trip report is no exception.
You see, I would like November in Finland slightly better if there would not be the retarded day light saving BS-thing, and instead of greyness I could do with snow. Snow like Ryan had it on his Snowy Stratton daytrip.
James shares some thoughts on soloing.
Kinpu continues to post superb MYOG articles. His latest article shows how he made a backpack prototype out of tyvek - which has the advantage of being easy to work with and cheap. Inspiring!
Linda spent a weekend in Bend.
I interview Sean of OookWorks, the UK's only cottage manufacturer, and a great guy.
Karl shares some history of Iron Mountain.
Beth shares the gorgeous view of autumn forests in Appalachia.
Thinking about walking John O'Groats to Land's End? Read Christine's Conclusion of her JOGLE and you might reconsider it. Or possibly she should have read Mike's Successful Long Distance Path Walking article beforehand.

Ken is currently in Turkey. Turkey is the beautiful country between the Mediterranean and Black Sea. It also has beautiful Novembers. Ken's account of his hikes around the country are well worth your time, and his Ephesus account will delight the history and archeology fans among you.
If you like grey and soggy weather, I reckon you will love Scotland. James seems to like Scotland, and Bothys. I wonder if he was disappointed by the sun and blue sky, which occasionally seemed to come through.
If you like racing, backpacking, and a combination of both, check out the inaugural Bob Marshall Wilderness Open which Dave is putting together.
A MTB park video. From this Mike guy, which takes awesome photos and makes sweet 29" wheels.
Markus not only makes gorgeous knifes - you should see my new UL blade - but also likes to go high and far. His Trettachspitze and Hfatsberschreitung photos and report are well worth seeing and reading.
Enjoyed TWIR? Flattr it, Like it on Facebook, tweet it and tell your hiking buddies about it!
